This small town is an imitation of a medieval Italian village with limestone houses. It is a refuge for many international artists, and from the town, there are fantastic views of the Chavón River. The small town of Altos de Chavón has several restaurants, a church where famous people have married…even “Michael Jackson”, luxury boutiques, a Regional Archaeological Museum with a large collection of Taino objects, and a branch of the Parsons School of Design in New York.
In addition to all this, Altos de Chavón has a spectacular stone amphitheater, in the most Roman style, with a capacity for more than 4,000 people. The amphitheater is used to celebrate different events and concerts. Frank Sinatra was the first to open it and give a concert. Julio Iglesias, Juan Luis Guerra, Marc Anthony, and famous merengue, salsa, and bachata singers and bands have performed here. Bayahíbe is only 20 minutes from La Romana.
