Scuba Diving Catalina Island

Catalina is a small island of less than 10 square kilometers off the coast of La Romana, from where it can be seen. The island is made up of impressive coral reefs and surrounded by one of the most diverse ecosystems in the Caribbean Sea. It is classified as a Protected Natural Park and is practically uninhabited, making it a very popular place for diving, fishing, and snorkeling, admiring its lush seabed full of corals, sea sponges, and tropical fish.

Despite its size, the island has many beautiful white sand beaches, very protected from the wind, thanks to which its turquoise and crystal-clear sea is always absolutely calm.

Catalina Island is home to two of the best diving spots in the Dominican Republic, which are world-renowned. These are the “Wall” and the Aquarium. Very different from each other, both are, however, worth exploring.

The Wall is an impressive wall that plunges into the Caribbean Sea, reaching a depth of about 100 meters, although marked by two steps, at 25 and 40 meters respectively, which allow a more gradual descent.

The second spot is the Aquarium, and the name is more than indicative. The depth of this diving spot is 11 meters, literally covered with coral formations, where the most typical species of the Caribbean Sea swim and live, such as seahorses, the famous lionfish, and the toadfish, among others.

And one last detail to keep in mind for diving enthusiasts: Catalina Island has optimal weather conditions almost all year round.
